We congratulate you on the International Translation Day!
oday, September 30th, is the International Translation Day!
The International Translation Day is a professional holiday of interpreters and translators. This holiday is still new; translators have started celebrating it since 1991. In 1991 the International Federation of Translators (FIT) has declared September 30th as the International Translation Day. The FIT is composed of more than 100 national translation organisations from all over the world and it aims at promotion of professionalism and protection of translators’ and terminologists’ rights.
Translation agency LingvoAC congratulates whole-heartedly on this professional holiday all our partners, who are aware of the importance of high-quality translation in the contemporary world, our colleagues, who assist people in communication and understanding of each other, our translators, editors, correctors and all those, who are somehow related to this area.
Mr. Medvedev asks Russians to learn Chinese
Dmitry Medvedev has visited the Russian language Centre of the Dalian Institute of Foreign languages in China. In the course of the meeting the Russian President has addressed all Russian people with a request to learn Chinese language, and he has advised Chinese people to start learning Russian.
Mr. Medvedev said: "Our states are cooperating very closely, so the more Chinese people speak Russian, and more Russians speak Chinese, the more stable and diversified our relations will be."
Mr. Medvedev visited the library of this centre, attended the classes and communicated with Chinese students, who confided to him that primarily electronic versions the works of Russian literature are available for them. The President was pleasantly surprised with the students, and he highlighted their ability to ‘speak fluently’ and write in Russian. ‘Not many Russians have such a neat and plan handwriting’, Mr. Medvedev joked.
Mr. Medvedev has handed over a picture of the Kremlin, made by a famous Moscow painter Vladimir Lapovka, to students and teachers of the Russian Language Centre.
As a part of his visit to China, Mr. Medvedev is planning to hold negotiations with the Chairman of PRC Hu Jintao in Beijing and visit an International Exhibition ‘Expo-2011’ in Shanghai.
They wish to introduce a course of Russian language in secondary schools of Finland
A Russian language professor Arto Mustaioki has proposed to introduce a course of Russian language in schools of Finland. The Russian office of Uliesradio reports that a Finnish teacher proposes to provide secondary schools students with the opportunity to choose which language, Swedish or Russian, to study as a second one. According to the professor, the promotion of Russian language status in secondary schools would benefit students. “Alternative Russian would improve the knowledge of Swedish language by Finns”, Mr. Mustaioki says. The majority of students would choose Swedish language, with Russian being optional”. The professor believes that the opportunity to choose a language would increase students’ motivation. Uliesradio reports that the Ministry of Education of Finland is still declining initiatives to raise the status of a Russian language and make it equal to the status of a Swedish language in the secondary school. According to experts, there is quite a high demand for Russian language in the eastern Finland, which is geographically close to Russia. At present, less than 1% of secondary school students study Russian language.
